AYON Wave · Surf spot

Surf forecast: Taíba.

Taíba sits on the kite coast west of Fortaleza, known first for its wind but carrying a real point-and-beach wave off the rocky headland at its northern end — a rockier, punchier alternative to the soft sand breaks nearby.

How it works here

The headland focuses swell arriving from E to ESE into a more defined, punchier wave than the open beach either side of it; the shore break away from the point stays softer and more sand-bottomed. Wind follows the same daily arc as the rest of the coast — light in the morning, filling in with the trade wind by late morning.

Best season

May through September for the more consistent south groundswell and the punchier point conditions; outside that window the wave is more windswell-dependent and less reliably shaped.

Conditions by level

Beginner

Stick to the open beach sections away from the headland rocks — softer, sand-bottomed, and far more forgiving.

Intermediate

The headland wave on a moderate swell is a good step up from a pure beach break, with real shape but a manageable rock hazard.

Advanced

On a bigger, well-organized swell the point produces the most defined wave in this immediate stretch of coast.

Watch out for

  • Rocks near the headland, particularly at lower tide — this is the same hazard AYON's kite data already flags for Taíba.
  • Shore break power on bigger days, common to this whole stretch of coast.
  • Boat traffic near the fishing-village side of the point.

Getting there

Around 40 minutes by car from Fortaleza along the coast road toward the kite towns — one of the closer options to the city for a real point wave.

Frequently asked questions

Is Taíba a surf spot or a kite spot?

Both — Taíba is one of AYON Wind's tracked kite spots, and the same headland that shapes the wind also focuses a real point-and-beach wave, punchier than the open sand breaks nearby.

What's the wave hazard at Taíba?

Rocks near the headland, especially at lower tide — the open beach sections either side stay sand-bottomed and safer for less experienced surfers.
