The reef needs E to ESE swell to wrap in with any real shape, and holds size better than the sand breaks nearby, producing a more powerful, more current-affected wave. Wind runs the same daily pattern as the rest of Ceará's coast — light and often favorable at dawn, onshore and choppy by late morning.

May through September for more consistent, better-organized south swell; the reef can still produce on a strong windswell outside that window, just less reliably.
