Kitesurfing is a risk sport

Kitesurfing involves inherent physical risk. Conditions change rapidly. Equipment can fail. Waves, currents, obstacles, boats, other water users, and weather can turn dangerous with little warning.

You participate at your own risk. AYON is a tool. You are the person on the water.

What AYON's information is

Wind readings, forecasts, kite-size recommendations, spot notes, route difficulty, safety notes, and rescue notes on this site and in the AYON Wind app are for informational purposes only.

Live wind data comes from public forecast models (see our Methodology page). It is not real-time observation from an on-spot anemometer. It can differ from what you observe on the beach.

Route difficulty ratings assume prior kitesurfing skill. A 'beginner+' route is not a first-lesson route.

Rescue notes describe considerations we know of — they are not a substitute for a real rescue plan you have arranged and confirmed.

Your responsibilities

• Assess the water yourself before launching, regardless of what AYON shows.
• Ride within your ability, not the ability the app assumes.
• Confirm your own launch, landing, exit, and rescue plan before any downwind.
• Do not ride alone in unfamiliar conditions.
• Follow all local rules, permits, and school/beach patrol instructions.
• Carry appropriate safety equipment for the conditions.

AYON works to keep information accurate but does not warrant that it is complete, current, or free of error. Live data services can be unavailable, delayed, or wrong.
