AYON Wind · Spot guide

Kitesurfing Paracuru.

Between Taíba and the quieter villages further up the coast, Paracuru is a real fishing town first and a kite spot second — a river mouth, a working harbor, and a long bay that turns on with the same trades as everywhere else in Ceará, minus the crowd.

How the wind works

The E to ESE trade wind arrives here largely unobstructed, side-onshore across the bay, with the river mouth adding a flatter pocket near the harbor at the right tide. It's the same engine as Cumbuco and Taíba, just further from Fortaleza's day-trip radius.

Best season

The same Ceará window: roughly August through December, strongest September to November.

Conditions by level

Beginner

The flatter water near the river mouth works at the right tide, but this is not a dedicated learning lagoon — a local school and a tide check both matter more here than in Cumbuco.

Intermediate

The main bay gives honest side-onshore riding with fewer kites to dodge than the spots closer to Fortaleza — a good place to log open-water hours.

Advanced

Paracuru is a waypoint, not just a stop — the coastal run down to Taíba is a genuine advanced leg, reef sections included.

Watch out for

  • Reef sections along parts of the bay — read the water before committing to a full-power run, especially at low tide.
  • This is a working harbor: fishing boats and river traffic have the right of way near the mouth.
  • Fewer schools and fewer riders than Cumbuco or Taíba means less help nearby — bring a buddy or a local contact.
  • The coastal run toward Taíba is open-water and advanced; confirm a rescue plan before you leave the bay.

Getting there

About 90 minutes from Fortaleza by road — a little further than Taíba, on the same coastal highway. Most riders base in Taíba or Cumbuco and day-trip, or arrive by downwinder.

Frequently asked questions

Is Paracuru good for beginners?

Not primarily. The flatter water near the river mouth works at the right tide, but this is not a dedicated learning lagoon like Cauípe or Taíba — a local school and a tide check matter more here.

How far is Paracuru from Fortaleza?

About 90 minutes by road on the coastal highway — a little further out than Taíba. Many riders base in Taíba or Cumbuco and day-trip, or arrive by downwinder.

What should I watch out for in Paracuru?

Reef sections along parts of the bay (read the water at low tide), and the working harbor — fishing boats and river traffic have right of way near the mouth. Fewer riders around also means less help nearby.
